Three Road Improvement Tenders Called
Nova Scotia drivers will benefit from improved road surfaces and extended pavement life as a result of three road-improvement tenders called by the province.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal has called for tenders for 34.5 kilometres of work on the following sections:
-- Colchester County - crack filling, crack sealing and resurfacing on the east bound lanes of Highway 104 from Masstown for 10.3 kilometres to the Crowes Mills overpass, and from east of the Crowes Mills overpass east for 4.6 kilometres. This includes the on- and off-ramps at the intersection of Highway 102.
-- Colchester County - seal coating on Sand Point Road from the intersection of Trunk 6 north for 2.8 kilometres.
-- Shelburne and Yarmouth counties - seal coating on Highway 103 in Shelburne County from Birchtown west for 7.9 kilometres to the intersection of Clinton Road, and in Yarmouth County on Ross Durkee Road for 3.5 kilometres, Belleville Road for 2.9 kilometres, and Route 308 for 2.5 kilometres.
"Sealing cracks and coating these roads will prevent larger construction costs later on," said Murray Scott, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "These projects are essential to protect these sections of road and make them safer for drivers."
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal's highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
