Tenders Called for Two Cape Breton Paving Projects

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

Drivers on Cape Breton Island will have smoother roads and improved access to the Cabot Trail thanks to two paving tenders called by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.

The two tenders, both of which close on Friday, June 20, are as follows:

Inverness County -- repaving on Trunk 19 from the intersection with the Cabot Trail at Margaree Forks for eight kilometes south to the intersection of Route 395 at South West Margaree.

Victoria County -- repaving on Highway 105 from west of Exit 8 at Baddeck for about 4.1 kilometres to Exit 8. Also included are improvements to the intersection at Exit 8.

"We understand the importance of maintaining our popular tourism routes," said Murray Scott, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "Keeping them strong and smooth will help encourage more, and longer, visits."

This project is part of government's commitment to better roads and infrastructure.

The department's highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
