Natural Dye Workshop at Highland Village Museum
A glimpse at the ingenuity, artistry and dye-making talents of pioneer women will be offered in a workshop at the Highland Village Museum/An Clachan Gàidhealach.
On Tuesday, June 17, textile specialist Vicki Quimby will teach the skills of 19th-century Scottish pioneer women who created dyes from natural ingredients to colour homespun materials and yarns in a wide range of hues. Participants will have a chance to dye their own wool.
The workshop is called Am Breacan Bòidheach Fasanta: Mary's Bonny Plaid. The title is taken from a Gaelic song praising a tartan cloth woven and hand-dyed by a woman named Mary.
The workshop will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the historic Centre Chimney House. It is open to all ages. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Light refreshments will be provided.
