Justice Department Complies With Workplace Order

The Department of Justice complied today, June 24, with a workplace order from the Department Of Labour and Workforce Development.

The department has agreed to provide new escort training for correctional officers that will include the use of intermediate weapons such as Oleoresin Capsicum, more commonly known as pepper spray, and batons.

The training must be complete before correctional guards can escort inmates, which is now being done by Sheriff Services.

The report and compliance orders have been posted at correctional institutions throughout the province and are available on the department's website www.gov.ns.ca/just .
