Assist Others in Power Outages

Emergency Management Office

Nova Scotians living in areas that have been without electricity for a number of days are being asked to check in on their neighbours.

"These have been a difficult few days for many people across our province, but Nova Scotians have been showing the true holiday spirit by helping out their friends, family and neighbours," said Emergency Management Minister Carolyn Bolivar-Getson. "It's a time when communities come together and neighbours help neighbours."

Many retailers and services are closed this evening, Dec. 24 , Christmas Day, Thursday, Dec. 25 and Boxing Day, Friday, Dec. 26, so Nova Scotians needing food or other supplies are advised to phone ahead to convenience stores, pharmacies, service stations, restaurants or other businesses before heading out. The Emergency Management Office also recommends that you pay close attention to local weather forecasts and road conditions.

"We know that Nova Scotia Power crews have been working tirelessly to restore electricity," Ms. Bolivar-Getson said. "The Emergency Management Office has been monitoring the situation and working closely with Nova Scotia Power, municipalities, provincial departments and non-profit agencies to ensure that the safety of Nova Scotians is not at risk."
