First Annual Minister's Award for Leadership in Crime Prevention

The Department of Justice is now accepting nominations for the first annual Minister's Award for Leadership in Crime Prevention.

The award will be given in six categories, and will recognize the efforts of those who are making significant contributions to a safer Nova Scotia.

"We want to show people across the province involved in grassroots initiatives that we applaud and support their hard work," said Attorney General and Justice Minister Cecil Clarke. "This award is an important part of our crime prevention and reduction strategy, Time to Fight Crime Together."

The Department of Justice will select one nominee in each of the following categories:

• individual
• youth
• community group or organization
• community policing
• media
• business community.

"Our neighbourhoods only become safer when we all work together," said Stephanie MacInnis-Langley, director of the crime prevention unit. "This award will help identify and recognize the many crime prevention efforts already underway across Nova Scotia."

The awards will be presented by Mr. Clarke April 2 at the First Annual Crime Prevention Symposium in Halifax.
