Nova Scotia's Unique Solutions Design Poised to Become Largest of its Kind
Nova Scotia's Unique Solutions Design Ltd. is set to expand its Dartmouth headquarters. The international company is also attracting significant new private-sector investment thanks to support from the province, through Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI).
Unique Solutions is a leader in the fashion and apparel world for its three-dimensional body scanners, custom fit, body measurements and data. Unique's scanners can be found in Mexico, Tunisia, Korea as well as Canada and the United States.
Nova Scotia Business Inc.'s equity arm, NSBI Venture Capital, is investing $2 million in Unique Solutions. The investment helped attract an additional $3 million in U.S.-based private-sector funding.
Premier Rodney MacDonald made the announcement at the company's headquarters in Dartmouth today, May 4. Premier MacDonald was joined by Tanya Shaw Weeks, CEO of Unique Solutions Design, and Stephen Lund, president and CEO of NSBI.
"Unique Solutions has grown a solid business from its home in Nova Scotia and now has an opportunity to become the largest company of its kind worldwide," said Premier MacDonald. "The province, through NSBI, is continuing to help the company reach its goals and maximize benefits for the people of Nova Scotia."
With the new investments, Unique Solutions is aggressively moving to deploy scanners and finalize contracts with some of the world's largest retailers and partners in the apparel and health and wellness industries.
Unique Solutions is projecting its growth will create 30 new jobs this year.
"As demand for our specialized equipment, support and web portal services grows, so will the demand for talented employees," said Ms. Shaw Weeks. "This round of investment helps support our business today and sustain it into the future."
NSBI Venture Capital has worked with Unique Solutions since 2003, and has a presence on the company's board of directors, helping drive its success.
