NATURAL RESOURCES–-Protecting the Dunes of Cherry Hill Beach

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Vehicle traffic along the dunes and beach at Cherry Hill Beach in Lunenburg County is banned, effective Friday, May 8, to protect the dunes.

Beach access for traditional uses such as clam digging, waterfowl hunting and swimming continues to be permitted. Please park all vehicles in the designated area.

"Cherry Hill is a great example of a pristine beach and dune system," said John Mills, wildlife biologist with the Department of Natural Resources.

"Hopefully by keeping vehicles off the beach and dunes the natural character can be maintained. This area is an important nesting habitat for the endangered piping plover and a vital feeding and resting area for many thousands of migrating shorebirds."

The ban will be enforced by Department of Natural Resources officers and, when appropriate, RCMP. Operators who ignore the ban can be charged under the Crown Lands Act and/or the Motor Vehicle Act.
