Gold River Bridge Replacement Complete

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

Lunenburg County residents and visitors have a new, modern $6 million bridge. Gold River Bridge on Trunk 3 has been replaced and the new bridge is now open.

"The beauty of our Lighthouse Route is appreciated by our residents and visitors," said Bill Estabrooks, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "The replacement of Gold River Bridge is an important project in maintaining this historic route, and will help connect the surrounding communities."

The replacement project began in early 2008 as the original structure approached the end of its structural life.

"We've built this bridge to provide another 50 years of safe travel," said Mike Rogers, western district project engineer for the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "We thank our community members for their patience during the replacement process."

Work to dismantle the temporary detour bridge will take place over the next two to four weeks. Drivers are asked to proceed with caution during this time.

The highways division of the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries.
