Nova Scotians Praised for Emergency Preparations

Emergency Management Office

Ramona Jennex, Minister of Emergency Management, commended Nova Scotians today, Aug. 24, for taking precautions in advance of Hurricane Bill.

"The safety of Nova Scotians is our highest priority, and with the uncertainty surrounding a storm of Bill's size and strength, and the unpredictability of its path, it was important that Nova Scotians were prepared for the worst," said Ms. Jennex. "I want to thank everyone for their co-operation."

Provincial and municipal emergency management co-ordinators and volunteers did an excellent job and played a vital role as the storm approached the Atlantic Provinces, Ms. Jennex said.

Early reports indicate that there has been minimal damage. The public is reminded to use caution at coastal areas where swells may still be present, and to stay away from downed power lines.

Emergency management agencies were working last night responding to the storm. The provincial Emergency Management Office and local agencies continue to monitor weather reports and updates from municipalities.
