New Case in Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program

Justice

The province is looking for the public's help with an unsolved case involving a missing person last seen nine years ago.

The province is offering a cash reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals responsible in the case of Charles Robert Maddison of Portapique, Colchester Co., missing person.

"We are urging anyone with information about the disappearance of Mr. Maddison to come forward," said Attorney General and Justice Minister Ross Landry. "There is no piece of information too trivial."

A friend of Mr. Maddison was the last person to speak to him, before 7 a.m. on Sept. 8, 2000. Mr. Maddison, who had several doctor appointments in Halifax later that morning, left his Portapique residence at about 7 a.m.

Several acquaintances reported seeing Mr. Maddison driving his 1989 blue Dodge Dakota truck in the Portapique and Great Village areas. Later that morning, the truck was seen driving along Highway 102 near Truro. Mr. Maddison has not been seen or heard from since.

On Sept. 9, 2000, Mr. Maddison's abandoned truck was located in a clearing near Rhines Road in East Hants. Mr. Maddison was 55 years old when he disappeared.

An extensive investigation followed Mr. Maddison's disappearance but no criminal charges were laid. While the case remains unsolved, the investigation is ongoing. Investigators suspect foul play.
