A New York-based video game developer for the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS is choosing Nova Scotia for its next level of growth.

Longtail Studios is expanding to Halifax, with plans to create up to 60 new jobs over the next five years. The province, through Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI), is supporting the company's growth with a five-year payroll rebate to a maximum of $1,077,397.

"Longtail Studios is a great fit for Nova Scotia," said Economic and Rural Development Minister, Percy Paris. "These are the kinds of exciting job opportunities that keep young people working, living and thriving here in Nova Scotia."

Longtail Studios was established in 2003 and is led by Gérard Guillemot, co-founder and director of Ubisoft Entertainment SA, the fourth largest video game publisher in the world.

"In this industry, we're looking for creative individuals with the right education and technical skills, and we're confident we can find that here in Nova Scotia," said Mr. Guillemot, president, Longtail Studios. "This province is a great fit for us because it has the right mix of young, skilled people, a strong education system and competitive costs."

Longtail Studios specializes in character-driven video games. The company recently introduced a video game based on the television show, Grey's Anatomy.

"These are the jobs of tomorrow," said Stephen Lund, president and CEO, NSBI. "We're thrilled to see a leading-edge video game developer like Longtail setting up in this province and showing the world that this sector in Nova Scotia is not only strong, it's growing."

Nova Scotia Business Inc. is Nova Scotia's private-sector-led business development agency. NSBI is the investment-attraction arm of the province and helps businesses in Nova Scotia meet growth potential through advisory services, trade development, financing and venture capital.
