Deputy Minister Announced for Department of Health

Kevin McNamara has been appointed deputy minister of Health, Premier Darrell Dexter announced today, Dec. 7.

Mr. McNamara is the former chief executive officer of the South Shore District Health Authority and has been acting deputy minister of the Department of Health since July.

"I want to offer my congratulations and best wishes to Mr. McNamara on his permanent appointment," said Premier Dexter. "Over the past five months, Mr. McNamara has demonstrated the skills and experience to lead the department through the changes needed to keep the health system sustainable for Nova Scotia families."

Mr. McNamara previously served as deputy minister for the Department of Environment and Labour and vice-president of human resources for the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre.

He is an active community volunteer and the chair of the Nova Scotia Advisory Committee on Organ and Tissue Donation. He also sits on a number of health-related committees.

The appointment is effective Dec. 21.
