Shubenacadie Sam Predicts Six More Weeks of Winter

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Shubenacadie Sam was at the centre of attention during the Groundhog Day event at the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park today, Feb. 2. The groundhog saw his shadow, predicting six more weeks of winter.

The annual Groundhog Day event, including face painting and crafts for the kids, was held at the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park.

The province's time zone allows Sam to be the first groundhog to make a prediction in North America each year.

According to tradition, if Sam sees his shadow and runs back into his burrow, the province will get six more weeks of winter. If he stays out, spring is just around the corner.
