Maritime Museum to Celebrate Canadian Navy During March Break

Tourism, Culture and Heritage (Dec. 2003 - Jan. 2011)

The 100th anniversary of the Canadian Navy will inspire learning and fun for the whole family during March break at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.

Activities throughout the week include hands-ons events like building model frigates, destroyers or other naval ships out of recycled milk cartons and other materials. There will also be a pirate hunt and the chance to dress up like sailors from the past century. Visitors can take try their hand at a ship simulator, or join the museum's "boot camp".

"This is the place for families to be during March break," said Kim Reinhardt, manager of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. "Visitors will learn more about the history of Canada's navy while they have fun with the hands on activities and displays."

There will also be a navy-themed display called Lego: Navy Town created by members of the Nova Scotia Lego Users Group.

To show support for naval personnel at home and abroad, the museum will observe Red Friday on March 19. Visitors will be encouraged to wear red and Canadian Forces personnel and their families will receive free admission all day.
