Provincial Parks: Discover Our Nature

Natural Resources (to July 2018)

Nova Scotians are invited to step away from the day-to-day and enjoy nature's finest experiences while visiting Nova Scotia provincial camping parks.

The provincial park reservation system will open on Saturday, April 3.

"Nova Scotians can now reserve their favourite site and look forward to camping season being just around the corner," said Department of Natural Resources Minister John MacDonell. "Our province's 20 camping parks are great locations for discovering Nova Scotia's natural beauty."

Visitors can choose sites within camping parks by accessing the reservation system online or by phone at 1-888-544-3434, between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m.

Beyond camping, provincial parks provide attractions for all ages and activities for everyone, from the observer to the experienced outdoors person. Facilities include beach and day-use parks, as well as many trails.

Day-use provincial parks operate from Victoria Day weekend until Thanksgiving Day weekend. Camping park dates vary by park with openings in May and June and closings in September and October.

Four parks will see improvements this year due to funding from the Canada-Nova Scotia Infrastructure Stimulus program. Laurie Provincial Park is undergoing an extensive renovation this summer, and the camping park is closed for the season. Mira River Provincial Park, Whycocomagh Provincial Park and Cape Chignecto will also see improvements this year and updates on which campsites are available and when will be listed on the parks website, www.novascotiaparks.ca.

Reservation fees are $9, with a $7 cancellation fee. Fees are $18 for basic camping, $24 for park with flush toilets and shower building, and $32 for water and electrical sites at Porters Lake. This year, Wi-Fi will be available at a designated area in 11 of the parks from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

No alcohol is permitted in all Nova Scotia Provincial Parks from the park opening date to checkout time on July 5 for the 2010 season. The no alcohol restriction will remain in place at Porters Lake and Dollar Lake throughout the entire season.
