Niche Tourism Experiences Showcased at Saltscapes Expo

Tourism, Culture and Heritage (Dec. 2003 - Jan. 2011)

From food, wines, culture and genealogy, Nova Scotia will be showcasing its unique experiences during this weekend's, Saltscapes Expo at Exhibition Park.

"With more than 20,000 Atlantic Canadians visiting the Saltscapes show this weekend, it is a great opportunity to highlight all the unique experiences that Nova Scotia has to offer," said Tourism, Culture and Heritage Minister Percy Paris.

The Nova Scotia pavilions will focus on niche marketing experiences. They allow tourism operators and organizations to diversify and develop authentic Nova Scotia products and experiences such as wine, agri-tourism, genealogy and cultural tourism.

This year's pavilion will feature Routes to Your Roots, a user-friendly resource at novascotia.com, focusing on genealogy. Created in partnership with the Council of Nova Scotia Archives, it is built around a database of 50,000 unique family names going back 200 years. With one simple search, visitors can easily find the potential archives, museums, libraries and historical societies in Nova Scotia with information on possible family connections.

Routes to Your Roots also links travellers to accommodations, visitor attractions, festivals and events and allows them to design, save and print personalized Routes to Your Roots.

In partnership with Taste of Nova Scotia and the Winery Association of Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia pavilions will also feature the various flavors of Nova Scotia. The Adventures in Taste Picnic area will showcase unique and memorable culinary and wine tourism experiences authentic to Nova Scotia's culture, heritage and lifestyle.

From dancing to lively fiddle tunes, to learning a Gaelic milling song, the Celtic Heart of North America, which represents the amazing Celtic experience on Cape Breton, will also be profiled at the expo.
