Province Releases Discussion Paper on Contaminated Sites

Environment (April 2008 - Feb. 2021)

The province is seeking input from Nova Scotians on how best to clean up and redevelop contaminated sites.

Public consultation will help government in the design of a comprehensive program for the management of such sites.

"Safe and proper cleanup of contaminated sites is important to everyone," said Environment Minister Sterling Belliveau. "Collaborating with Nova Scotians will ensure we have a program that will not only help protect our environment, but improve communities in every region of the province."

Developing regulatory tools for the redevelopment of contaminated land is a commitment of the Environmental Goals and Sustainable Prosperity Act.

The discussion paper, prepared after extensive research and stakeholder involvement, proposes a number of approaches to better manage contaminated sites.
