Making Nova Scotia A Safer Place To Live

Emergency Management Office

The Emergency Management Office, through the national Joint Emergency Preparedness Program, is helping Nova Scotia be better prepared to respond in a time of crisis.

JEPP is a program cost-shared by the federal and municipal governments to provide a uniform level of emergency preparedness across Canada. EMO administers the program for Nova Scotia, and assists government departments, municipalities and First Nations in identifying projects that qualify for funding.

This year, 24 Nova Scotia municipalities are sharing more than $215,000 in funding for projects such as water and ice rescue equipment, emergency generators, upgrades to communications equipment and the development of emergency plans.

"EMO is committed to working with all our partners to strengthen emergency preparedness in Nova Scotia," said Emergency Management Minister Ramona Jennex. "It is programs like this that make Nova Scotia a safer place to live."

JEPP is administered at the federal level by Public Safety Canada. EMO is the sole agency authorized to process applications and claims, and enter negotiations with the federal government about the program.
