Tourism, Culture and Heritage (Dec. 2003 - Jan. 2011)

Potential visitors from around the Atlantic region are discovering why southwest Nova Scotia is the perfect choice for a vacation thanks to a new marketing campaign launched this week.

Working with industry partners, the province has unveiled the Explore Our Shores campaign to encourage Maritimers to visit the southwest Nova Scotia region.

"This campaign showcases the unique experiences visitors can have when they visit southwest Nova Scotia," said Tourism, Culture and Heritage Minister Percy Paris. "Through the televison ads that began airing this week, we want to remind Maritimers of all that southwest Nova Scotia has to offer as they plan their vacations."

Southwest Nova Scotia includes the South Shore, Yarmouth and Acadian Shores, Fundy Shore and Annapolis Valley.

"Government is investing in promoting tourism in southwest Nova Scotia as it keeps its commitment to growing the economy and creating good jobs," said Mr. Paris. "This helps to make life better for families in every region."

The campaign will include television, radio, newspaper and online promotion. Content targeted at tourism media and social media will highlight the unique and diverse experiences in the region, including rich Acadian music, art and culture, seafaring towns and villages, amazing outdoor activities and world-class cuisine.

Premier Darrell Dexter previously announced $200,000 to fund the campaign as part of government's Team West strategy for encouraging sustainable economic growth in southwest Nova Scotia.
Over the last month, staff from the Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage have been working with representatives of Destination Southwest Nova Association to look at ways to promote the area.

"We are committed to bringing tourism industry stakeholders together to partner and create strong marketing campaigns aimed at promoting this spectacular region and encouraging people to explore and experience our towns and communities," said Dan Myers, president of Destination Southwest Nova Association.
