Province to Administer First-time Home Buyers Rebate

Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations (Oct. 2000 - March 2014)

Effective July 1, the province will take over the administration of the first-time home buyers rebate.

The rebate is a provincial program currently administered by the Canada Revenue Agency.

"We will continue to provide the same level of rebates to first-time home buyers," said Ramona Jennex, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. "This rebate is a fine example of government's commitment to help make life more affordable for Nova Scotia families."

This rebate is for first-time home buyers only, on the purchase price or construction costs of a new home to be used as a primary residence. It is equivalent to 18.75 per cent of the provincial portion of the HST to a maximum of $1,500.

The program eligibility and the maximum rebate amount remains the same as administered by the Canada Revenue Agency.
