Climate Change Adaptation Solutions Sought

Environment (April 2008 - Feb. 2021)

Nova Scotians can help address the impacts of climate change through a new provincial funding program.

The Climate Change Adaptation Fund aims to help Nova Scotia to better deal with climate change by encouraging local, innovative solutions.

"I am continually inspired by the creativity and resourcefulness of Nova Scotians," said Sterling Belliveau, Minister of Environment. "This fund will provide opportunity to lessen the negative impact on the environment and our communities, and make life better for families in every region of the province."

The Climate Change Adaptation Fund is open to people, businesses, community groups and organizations, schools, and municipalities. The initial fund of $25,000 will go toward supporting projects that reduce the negative impact of the changing climate, or take advantage of a new opportunity.

They could include planning crop transitions for a warmer, drier growing season; research and development of the food supply and urban agriculture; or designing buildings that stand up to extreme weather conditions.

The deadline for project submissions is Aug. 3. Projects must be complete by March 31. Application forms and program information are available on the department's website at www.climatechange.gov.ns.ca/content/adapt, or by contacting the fund co-ordinator at adaptationfund@gov.ns.ca or 902-424-0782.
