Investigation Into Transfer of Robert Thomas Crowe Complete

Justice

An internal investigation by the Department of Justice has found that human error was the reason Robert Thomas Crowe was not included on a court transfer document, Justice Minister Ross Landry announced today, July 9.

"This type of mistake should not happen," said Mr. Landry. "I have just received this information and immediate action is being taken."

There is a series of checks and balances in place to ensure the correct offenders are transferred, including automated and manual functions. These processes were not followed properly.

Performance shortcomings will be addressed with two staff and an additional review of the administrative process for court listings will be completed.

"We take these matters very seriously," said Mr. Landry. "We have worked very hard throughout the Department of Justice to ensure the right training, equipment and procedures are in place at all of our correctional facilities. Now we are making sure they are followed."

Mr. Crowe was re-arrested today on new charges in connection with an incident that occurred on June 27. He is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today to face these new charges.
