Provinces Closes Museums, Visitor Information Centers

Because of the predicted weather conditions associated with Hurricane Earl, and in the interests of staff and public safety, provincial visitor information centres and locations of the Nova Scotia Museum operated by the province will be closed Saturday, Sept. 4.

The closure affects provincially operated visitor information centers in Yarmouth, Digby, Peggy's Cove, Amherst, Pictou, Halifax Stanfield International Airport and on the Halifax waterfront.

Visitor information will continue to be available through the official tourism website www.novascotia.com and accommodation booking services will still be offered through Check-Inn at 1-800-565-0000.

The following museum sites directly operated by the province will be closed Saturday:

• Musuem of Natural History and Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Halifax
• Uniacke Estate Museum in Mount Uniacke
• Fisherman's Life Museum in Jeddore Oyster Pond, Halifax Regional Municipality
• Museum of Industry in Stellarton
• Sutherland Steam Mill in New Denmark, Pictou County
• Balmoral Grist Mill in Balmoral Mills, Colchester County
• Prescott House in Starr's Point, Kings County
• Haliburton House and Shand House in Windsor
• Lawrence Mouse in Maitland, Hants County
• Fundy Geological Museum, Parrsboro

Museum sites managed locally have also been encouraged to close and the public is asked to call ahead to these locations on Saturday.

Sunday operations at visitor information centres and provincial museums will be reassessed based on conditions. The public is urged to check the Nova Scotia Museum website at http://museum.gov.ns.ca for updated information on museum openings.
