Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation (to Dec. 2012)

Nova Scotians will learn more about responsible gambling through education programs and events scheduled for Responsible Gambling Awareness Week held Oct. 3 to 9.

The Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation is holding its ninth annual Responsible Gambling Awareness Week to raise awareness of responsible gambling behaviour.

"The cornerstone of NSGC's social responsibility commitment is responsible gambling," said Marie Mullally, president and CEO of the gaming corporation. "While we are pleased to provide a variety of programs throughout the year to help educate and raise awareness about responsible gambling, this week is a great opportunity to shine the spotlight on these important messages."

The week's activities will focus on six communities: Halifax Regional Municipality; Cape Breton Regional Municipality; Municipality of Digby; Municipality of Lunenburg; Truro and New Glasgow. Some of the highlight events are:

  • An interactive community education display will be in each community, where visitors can take a responsible gambling quiz to test their knowledge of responsible gambling behaviour.

  • A two-day responsible gambling conference, Oct. 4-5 in Halifax will allow delegates to hear world-class experts on emerging technologies and trends, including responsible gambling and prevention programming.

  • An address about the province's gaming industry by Ms. Mullally at the Halifax Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 5.

  • The release of the gaming corporation's Community Report, which explains how its Social Responsibility Charter is applied to operations.
