Online Expenses Posting Will Include Vendor Names

Speaker's Office

The system in development to post MLA expenditures will provide the identities of vendors who provide the goods and services to MLAs, Speaker of the House of Assembly Charlie Parker said today, Oct. 1.

"I received earlier advice that there were privacy concerns with the system being considered, but that was with a proposal that would have posted digital images of actual receipts, which may contain vendors' signatures and provide opportunities for identity theft," said the Speaker. "The current proposal would report on information entered in the province's financial system and therefore allow the posting of vendor names."

For each transaction reimbursed to an MLA, the online report will show the payment date, the amount spent, a description of the item or service, including the name of the vendor, and the general ledger account used for the payment.

"This change allows us to be more open and transparent with all MLA expenses and be accountable to Nova Scotians," said Mr. Parker.
