Executives to Help Nova Scotia Companies Improve Business Grow-How

Economic and Rural Development (Jan. 2009 - Jan. 2011)

Hundreds of Nova Scotia business leaders and top-level public planners will see how companies can profit and grow from going green at the fourth annual Power of Green conference Nov. 8 in Halifax.

This year's keynote speaker will be Loblaw executive chairman Galen Weston. Many will recognize Mr. Weston from his television ads for President's Choice products, however, few know about his industry-leading sustainable seafood policy, which he will discuss at the conference.

Economic and Rural Development Minister Percy Paris said having people such as Mr. Weston sharing knowledge will help the entire province.

"By bringing business leaders of this calibre together, the conference is giving Nova Scotia entrepreneurs a chance to share ideas and make connections that will help us create good jobs, grow our economy, and compete in the global marketplace," said Mr. Paris.

Also speaking at the conference is author, venture capitalist and environmental leader Andrew Heintzman, whose company Investeco is the first Canadian investment firm to exclusively focus on the environmental sector.

"From forestry to fishing, manufacturing to waste management, every industry can profit from understanding the importance of making the green economy part of your business plan," said Mr. Heintzman.

This year more emphasis will be placed on bringing business leaders together so they can make contacts and share ideas. Delegates will be able to choose from several industry-specific breakout sessions. These small, informal group discussions are designed to maximize networking opportunities.

The conference will be hosted by the Department of Economic and Rural Development at the World Trade and Convention Centre.
