Building for Democracy Book Launched

Speaker's Office

A book that links the history and architectural design of Province House and other maritime parliamentary buildings was launched today, Nov. 16.

Speaker of the House of Assembly Charlie Parker hosted the release of Building For Democracy: The History and Architecture of the Legislative Buildings of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick at Province House.

The book showcases the Maritime Provinces' parliamentary buildings and tells the story of why each building was designed as it was, and the styles and ideas their designers drew upon.

Author James Macnutt spoke at the event and signed copies of the book.

"I am particularly pleased to have the first of the three book launches of Building for Democracy at Province House because the Legislature of Nova Scotia is the parent legislature of those in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick," said Mr. Macnutt.

Mr. Macnutt is also the author of The Historical Atlas of Prince Edward Island, Inside Island Heritage Homes and is the co-author of Heritage Houses of Prince Edward Island.
