New Website Provides Easy Access to Workplace Safety Information

Labour and Advanced Education (Jan. 2011 - Aug. 2021)

Nova Scotians can now access valuable workplace safety information more easily through a new website.

Taking action to address client feedback, the Department of Labour and Advanced Education developed Knowledge Base, a new website that allows users to easily locate occupational health and safety information.

It also allows users to contribute to, or amend, what appears on the site. Highlights also include a wiki-style, frequently asked question and comment section, an RSS feed to help track updates and changes, and improved search capability.

"The most important feature of the site is the ability for users to influence what they can find there," said Marilyn More, Minister, Labour and Advanced Education. "The site will change and evolve along with the needs of Nova Scotia's employers and employees."

The website can be accessed by anyone and will provide relevant, accurate and timely information on a number of workplace safety topics.

"I no longer have to go searching through multiple websites or make several phone calls to get the answers we need," said Trevor Morine, plant manager, Scotia Recycling in Kentville, Nova Scotia. "This will also be very helpful to our Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee in developing new information and tools to prevent workplace injury."

The site launch was timed to coincide with North American Occupational Health and Safety Week May 1-7. To visit the site go to www.gov.ns.ca/lae/kb .
