Climate Change Funding, Website Announced

Environment (April 2008 - Feb. 2021)

Nova Scotians now have access to more information and funding to address climate change.

For the second year, the $25,000 Climate Change Adaptation Fund is available for projects that help communities, businesses and individuals adapt to the effects of climate change.

"We are already seeing the impacts of climate change in Nova Scotia including more frequent storm events and rising sea levels," said Environment Minister Sterling Belliveau. "It's important to support local projects that help Nova Scotians adapt to our changing climate."

Last year, the fund sponsored projects by the Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia Community College and Ecology Action Centre. These projects ranged from emergency planning and management to developing communications planning for coastal property owners.

A new section on the department's website has been added, providing climate information that will help people prepare for the challenges and opportunities of a changing climate.

Applications for the Climate Change Adaptation Fund can be found on the website http://climatechange.gov.ns.ca/content/adaptation_fund . Forms can also be obtained by emailing adaptationfund@gov.ns.ca or calling 902-424-0786.

The deadline for applications is July 29.

In the event of a disruption in postal service, forms may be dropped off at any local Nova Scotia Environment office in the province.
