Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations (Oct. 2000 - March 2014)

Ministers of municipal and local governments from across Canada wrapped up their annual general meeting at Saint Andrews, New Brunswick on Thursday, July 14.

During the meeting, Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations Minister John MacDonell, and his colleagues, had an opportunity to meet with Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities.

At the meeting, ministers stressed the importance of adequate, predictable and long-term funding for municipal infrastructure needs such as wastewater.

The ministers also met with representatives from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to address areas of mutual concern including climate change, water conservation, municipal-structure reform and municipal finance.

"This annual meeting was a great opportunity for jurisdictions from across the country to come together to share ideas and learn from each other," said Mr. MacDonell. "We look forward to continuing discussions with our counterparts from across the country to help make life better for Nova Scotians and for Canadians."

Alberta will host the meeting in 2012.
