Feedback Sought on Proposed Changes to the Environment Act

Environment (April 2008 - Feb. 2021)

Nova Scotians are invited to comment on proposed changes to the Environment Act.

The act has undergone a legislated review that takes place every five years and changes have been proposed to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

"Nova Scotians are telling us that the act works well, but we're taking this opportunity to make it even better," said Environment Minister Sterling Belliveau. "A strong Environment Act will help protect our environment now and for future generations."

The act guides the day-to-day operations of the Department of Environment, including the assessment, approvals, and investigations of activities which may pose a risk to the environment.

The suggested changes are based on discussions with department staff and input received from interested parties and the public in recent years. Comments on the proposed changes will be considered before amendments are brought forward in the legislature.

A discussion paper is available at www.gov.ns.ca/nse . Nova Scotians can provide feedback through the online form, by e-mailing policy@gov.ns.ca or by mailing Environment Act Review, 5151 Terminal Rd., P.O. Box 442, Halifax, N.S., B3J 2R7.

The deadline for comments is August 22.
