Government Improving Highway 118

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

Work is slated to begin Wednesday, Aug. 3, to address increased traffic volume and enhance safety on a stretch of Highway 118.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal has hired Ocean Contractors of Dartmouth to make roadway modifications on the highway near the Dartmouth Crossing shopping complex. Work will take place along a three-kilometre section from Exit 12 (Highway 107) to the intersection of Woodland Avenue, just past the overpass structures.

The project, valued at $600,000, includes the installation of a centerline barrier and sign alterations.

"Traffic has increased significantly in the area since the highway was built in 2006 and therefore adjustments need to be made to ensure the road is as safe as possible," said Bill Estabrooks, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.

Drivers should use extra caution in this area during construction.

The department's highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads, maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
