Amendments to Act to Incorporate Nova Scotia Association of Health Organizations

Health and Wellness

Proposed amendments to the Act to Incorporate Nova Scotia Association of Health Organizations will update the legislation to better reflect the services and current practices of the association. The amendments will also allow it to be called Health Association Nova Scotia.

"For more than 50 years, the association has made a positive contribution to the health system of Nova Scotia," said Maureen MacDonald, Minister of Health and Wellness. "The association works collaboratively to promote health system improvements and provides more than 130 members with responsive, cost-effective, and valuable programs and services."

The present act was last amended in 1974. Since that time the role of the association has evolved to better meet the needs of its membership, and other health sector organizations.

The proposed amendments will reflect the expansion of the association's mandate to provide services to its members not included in the current act, including labour relations, salary administration and clinical engineering services. They will also permit the expansion of contracted services to non-members.

A non-government, non-profit, membership-driven association, it represents health and community services organizations spanning the entire health-care system in Nova Scotia.
