New Bridge for Victoria County

Residents of Victoria County are getting a new bridge. The Red Bridge on the old Margaree Road in Big Baddeck will be replaced this construction season.

Staff from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal are working on a plan, including the structural design of the new bridge and the replacement timeline. The existing bridge will be removed over the summer for safety reasons.

"We're pleased to announce that we are replacing the aging Red Bridge with a brand new structure," said Maurice Smith, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "We thank residents for their co-operation over the summer by safely following the detour route set up by department staff. As always, motorists are encouraged to use necessary precautions when driving in construction zones."

The Red Bridge was closed in May after a routine bridge inspection discovered concerns with the structure.
