Province Invests in Clark's Harbour Area Students

Education (July 1999 - March 2013)

Students and families from Clark's Harbour and surrounding communities will have more learning opportunities thanks to a $4.7-million investment from the province.

The province will work with the Tri-County Regional School Board to upgrade and renovate Clark's Harbour Elementary School to become a consolidated Primary to Grade 6 school.

"Putting kids and learning first means providing the best learning environment for students to be successful," said Education Minister Ramona Jennex. "The renovations will ensure that Clark's Harbour Elementary will serve the community well for many years to come.

"This investment will make it possible for work to begin immediately so students and members of the community can benefit sooner."

Once the renovations and upgrades are completed, the school will be home to all Primary to Grade 6 students in the area.

"We are excited to hear about the funding for renovations to Clark's Harbour School," said Jennifer Sears, chair of Clark's Harbour/Cape Sable Island School Advisory Council. "Now both the town and the island community can move forward to create a modern, state-of- the-art facility that will finally unite our primary to six students and provide a community centre that can be enjoyed by all ages."

The province will allocate $200,000 to the project for the 2012-13 fiscal year. The project will not impact other projects which the board may include in its capital priorities. The school board will manage the project in collaboration with the departments of Education and Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.

About 200 students will attend the renovated school. The project is expected to be completed in the 2014-15 school year.
