$1.7-Million Road Paving Contract Awarded

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

Whether travelling to a ceilidh or a Cape Breton clam bake, Nova Scotians will have a smoother trip on Highway 19.

The province awarded a $1.7-million road paving contract to Dexter Construction Company Ltd. to repave 6.6 kilometres of Highway 19 (Ceilidh Trail).

"The Ceilidh Trail is starting to realize its terrific potential as a recreation and tourism resource and this job will help smooth the way," said Maurice Smith, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "This job and many others are listed in the province's 5-Year Highway Improvement Plan that serves as a long-term blueprint for maintaining Nova Scotia's highway system."

The road will be paved from 1.2 kilometres north of the intersection of Creignish Mountain Road north for 6.6 kilometers.

The province plans to pave 500 kilometres of road this year and resurface more than 200 kilometres. This year's $281-million road construction budget is part of a three-year stretch of record-breaking highway improvement investments.

The 5 Year Plan is available on the department's website at www.gov.ns.ca/tran/highways/5yearplan/2012_13Content.asp .
