Minister Welcomes Delegation from the Philippines

Environment (April 2008 - Feb. 2021)

A delegation from the Philippines is checking out Nova Scotia's innovative approach to water resource management until Friday, June 29.

"The government is recognized for its leadership in protecting our water resources," said Environment Minister Sterling Belliveau. "We welcome the opportunity to share our knowledge and experience with the delegation from the Philippines."

The delegation is here through a Canadian Urban Institute learning program. It includes senior officials and professionals representing a region with lowland areas and a watershed formed by two rivers. They were drawn to Nova Scotia because of its leadership and innovative approach to water resource management, as well as experience in coastal management, economic development and addressing climate change.

"The delegation is particularly interested in Nova Scotia because of the coastal landscape and economy, as well as the challenges they both face around climate change and disaster management," said Lisa Cavicchia, program manager, International Partnerships with the Canadian Urban Institute.

"The delegates are eager to learn from Nova Scotia's experiences and good practices in coastal and marine resource management, sustainable planning and management of ecosystems, and local economic development approaches in the fisheries, agri-food and tourism sectors."

The Canadian Urban Institute is a Toronto-based, non-profit organization dedicated to identifying, developing and delivering policy and planning solutions to enable urban regions in Canada and around the world to thrive and prosper. It has active partnerships with over 15 urban regions in Africa, the Caribbean, Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe.
