Public Consultation on Maritime Link Regulations

Energy (June 2002 - July 2018)

The province is looking for comment from Nova Scotians on draft regulations for a review of the Maritime Link, the subsea cable project that will connect Nova Scotia to clean hydro-electricity from Newfoundland and Labrador.

Nova Scotia's Utility and Review Board (UARB) will conduct the review of the Maritime Link portion of the Lower Churchill Project at Muskrat Falls, Newfoundland and Labrador.

"This project will create jobs, grow the economy, give us access to more energy options and help us achieve energy diversity, security and stability," said Energy Minister Charlie Parker. "It's a key component in ensuring we meet our greenhouse gas emission targets while bringing stability to electricity rates and reducing our reliance on coal."

The review by the regulatory board will examine the Maritime Linkto ensure it is the best long-term option for Nova Scotians and to help meet future renewable energy targets.

Legislation passed this spring calls for the UARB to review costs to determine if the project is in the best interest of Nova Scotia rate payers. The draft regulations were developed in consultation with the board.
