Organizations Receive Funding to Improve Accessiblity

Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations (Oct. 2000 - March 2014)

The province is improving access for persons with disabilities through investments in 19 community facilities and venues.

The Community ACCESS-ability Program will provide almost $108,000 for accessibility-related capital improvements such as renovations, installations, and equipment.

"This funding will help non-profit community organizations and groups provide accessibility to facilities," said John MacDonell, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations. "This investment will make life better for Nova Scotians with disabilities by removing barriers in public buildings and spaces."

The program will provide a grant of up to two thirds of the costs, to a maximum of $10,000. The organization is responsible for raising at least one third of the project's funding from other sources.

"We appreciate the funding that will allow us to provide wheelchair-handicap walkways and ramps for our many visitors and local residents," said Ohra Colins, president, Greville Bay Shipbuilding Museum Society/Age of Sail Heritage Museum. "This means lower levels of both main buildings, adjacent buildings and our beautiful new Wharfwalk will become accessible to everyone to enjoy."
