Minister Appoints Provincial Fire Marshal

The Minister of Labour and Advanced Education appointed Harold Pothier as Provincial Fire Marshal effective today, Sept. 10.

"I am very pleased to officially welcome Mr. Pothier to the important role as our province's fire marshal," said Labour and Advanced Education Minister Marilyn More. "Public safety is a priority, and I am are sure Mr. Pothier and his team will continue to show great leadership and dedication to reduce and eliminate the suffering and tragic loss caused by fire by facilitating fire and building safety systems.

"I look forward to his continued work to improve fire protection in Nova Scotia."

Mr. Pothier and his staff advise various levels of government, including municipalities, on matters such as fire-protection systems, and provide fire-prevention education. He will also work toward meeting recommendations made by the province's auditor general to improve fire prevention and investigation.

"We all have a role to play when it comes to preventing fires, and I look forward to continuing my work to provide leadership and direction by supporting fire-prevention strategies, fire-safety education, and the enforcement of fire safety codes and standards," said Mr. Pothier. "Working together, we can achieve fire safety."

Mr. Pothier has more than 35 years of fire services experience and won a competition for the position.
