Premier, Minister Honour Teachers

Education (July 1999 - March 2013)

Premier Darrell Dexter and Education Minister Ramona Jennex honoured the men and women who prepare our young people for good jobs and to be good citizens today, Oct. 5, during World Teachers' Day.

Premier Dexter said the day is an opportunity for Nova Scotians to say thank you to the province's 10,000 teachers, including those at public schools, the Nova Scotia Community College and the Atlantic Province Special Education Authority, for the work they do educating students.

"These skilled and dedicated professionals in Nova Scotia's schools and college campuses are key to students' success," said Premier Dexter. "We owe them our thanks and appreciation every day of the year, not just on Oct. 5."

"Our students are very fortunate to have passionate and dedicated teachers at the front of their classrooms," said Ms. Jennex. "I would like to thank our many teachers for all the great things that are happening in our classrooms every day."

World Teachers' Day, created by UNESCO and celebrated annually since 1994 on Oct. 5, highlights the important role of teachers in society. This year's theme is Take a Stand for Teachers.
