Law Amendments Committee Meeting in Shelburne

Residents in, and around, Shelburne and surrounding counties will have an opportunity to have their voices heard at a meeting of the law amendment committee on the proposed legislation for electoral boundaries.

The law amendments committee will meet at Sandy Point Lighthouse Centre, beginning Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. and continuing Friday at 9 a.m.

The committee will hear presentations on Bill 94, The House of Assembly Act, which will implement the recommendations of the Electoral Boundaries Commission.

People who wish to present to the committee are strongly urged to register in advance to ensure they have an opportunity to speak. People can register by calling the Nova Scotia Legislative Counsel at 902-424-8941.

Written submissions can be sent to the Office of the Legislative Counsel at P.O. Box 1116, Halifax, NS, B3J 2X1, by e-mail to legc.office@gov.ns.ca, or by fax to 902-424-0547.

People will also be able to make presentations to the committee during the regular meetings of the law amendments committee being held at the House of Assembly.

The House of Assembly Act requires an independent review of electoral boundaries every 10 years.

This is the third independent review of Nova Scotia's electoral boundaries since 1992.

Sandy Point Lighthouse Centre is located 10 kilometres outside of Shelburne at 1586 Sandy Point Rd.
