Nominations Sought to Recognize Outstanding Nova Scotians

Protocol Office

The province is seeking nominations for Nova Scotia's highest honour to help recognize the achievements of its most outstanding citizens.

Nominations are now being accepted for the Order of Nova Scotia. People can nominate, or re-nominate someone who has made significant and lasting contributions to their community.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 15.

"The Order of the Nova Scotia is the highest honour the province can bestow on an individual. It recognizes a lifetime of commitment to making our province a better place to live for all Nova Scotians," said Lt.-Gov. J.J. Grant, chancellor of the Order of Nova Scotia. "I encourage people to nominate someone for the Order, and re-nominations have also been very successful."

Since its creation in 2001, 67 recipients have been invested into the Order, including five new members last year.

"Members of the Order of Nova Scotia exemplify the highest level of citizenship through their dedication to our communities and outstanding accomplishments," said Premier Darrell Dexter. "We have remarkable people in our province who help make life better for all Nova Scotians. The Order is a wonderful and lasting way to recognize an individual's contributions to our province."

Nova Scotians can be nominated for a variety of achievements. In 2012, Bridglal Pachai was invested into the Order for his work as an author, educator, historian and human rights activist. Dr. Pachai demonstrated a dedication to improve the lives of his fellow Nova Scotians and has had a lasting positive impact on the province.

"Receiving the Order of Nova Scotia was a tremendous honour," said Dr. Pachai. "It was a pleasure to meet my fellow recipients, each serving as a shining example of what an individual can contribute. I am grateful someone took the time to nominate me."

Nomination forms are available at all Access Nova Scotia centres, Province House, offices of members of the legislative assembly, Nova Scotia members of Parliament and the Senate, and municipal offices.

People re-nominating, can submit a photocopy of the previous nomination package, with a new nomination form.
