4-H members will have a chance to refine their skills as they compete in a provincial communications competition at the annual Nova Scotia 4-H Weekend on Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11, at the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus in Bible Hill.

During the two-day event, 4-H members, ages nine to 21, will participate in public speaking and demonstrations competitions, woodsman contests, and the Nova Scotia Horse Classic.

"Through the 4-H program, young Nova Scotians acquire important leadership skills and learn to contribute to their communities," said Agriculture Minister John MacDonell. "Many 4-H alumni credit the program with giving them the communication skills they needed to succeed in their chosen careers."

During 4-H Night in Nova Scotia on Saturday, awards will be presented for speeches, demonstrations, national 4-H conference opportunities, and the Nova Scotia Friends of 4-H. The provincial 4-H Host and Hostess and official youth representatives for Nova Scotia's 4-H program will also be selected.

For 100 years, the Canadian 4-H program has provided youth with technical, social, sportsmanship, leadership, and life skills. For more information on the Nova Scotia 4-H program, please visit www.gov.ns.ca/agri/4h/.
