Nova Scotia Strawberries Ripe for the Picking, Op-ed

Agriculture

NOTE: The following is an op-ed piece from Agriculture Minister John MacDonell.

There has been a lot of coverage in the media recently about a strawberry virus found on some strawberry farms around the province.

I feel as though we need to be clear that the virus does not affect the taste or health of the fruit, although it may affect the plants and reduce the yield. The virus poses absolutely no health risk to people.

While the strawberry crop may be down this year, there are still lots of local berries to be had. This year's crop is excellent quality. The berries are as tasty as ever.

So take a trip to a u-pick, local farmers' market or grocery store and take a bite of a fresh, juicy Nova Scotia strawberry today and see for yourself.
