NOTE: A list of projects follows this release.

Royal Canadian Legions in Nova Scotia will be able to improve facilities that benefit their communities with provincial support announced today, July 12.

Through the Legion Capital Assistance Program, the province is investing more than $93,000 in 15 legions for capital upgrades such as new doors and windows, roof repairs, heating systems and washroom renovations.

"We are pleased to help these legions make needed improvements and upgrades so veterans, their families and community members have access to facilities for the many activities, events and meetings they host," said Jim Boudreau, MLA for Guysborough-Sheet Harbour, on behalf of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations Minister John MacDonell. "These funds will help our legions provide better service to their communities."

The program provides up to 50 per cent of eligible costs, to a maximum contribution of $10,000.

Ronald Trowsdale, president, Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command, Royal Canadian Legion, applauds the province's support.

"Cost-shared grants awarded through this program are invaluable in assisting Royal Canadian Legion branches to remain accessible and sustainable to best serve our veterans and our communities," said Mr. Trowsdale.
