Frozen Burger Recall Expanded

Health and Wellness

Nova Scotia's chief public health officer, Dr. Robert Strang, is alerting the public that a national recall of frozen hamburgers was expanded Oct. 8 to include Compliments Super 6 Burgers, President's Choice Beef Burgers and Webers Bucket of Burgers.

The recall began Oct. 2 when the Canadian Food Inspection Agency recalled Compliments brand Super 8 Beef Burgers. The products may contain harmful E.coli bacteria and are linked to a cluster of E.coli cases in Ontario.

"There are still no confirmed or suspected E.coli cases associated with these products in Nova Scotia," said Dr. Strang. "To be safe, Nova Scotians who have any of these products are advised to throw them out."

The President's Choice Beef Burger package has the UPC code 0 60383 37167 8. The product was distributed through Loblaws stores in Nova Scotia, including Atlantic Superstore, Save Easy, No Frills, and Wholesale Club.

The Super 8 and Super 6 Beef Burgers were distributed under the Compliments brand through Sobeys and Foodland stores in Nova Scotia. The Super 8 burgers have a UPC of 0 55742 37055 3. The Super 6 burgers have a UPC of 0 55742 34129 4.

Webers Bucket of Burgers may have been distributed nationally but were not sold in Nova Scotia. The UPC code is 6 27843 06456 5.

The province continues to monitor the situation with federal partners.

When cooking ground beef, including hamburgers, remember:

  • cook all ground beef until a thermometer inserted into centre of the meat reads 71 C (160F)
  • keep raw meat separate from other foods in the kitchen
  • wash hands, cutting boards, utensils and counter tops with hot, soapy water if they touch raw meat
