NSLC Announces Second Quarter Results

Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation

The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC) released its second quarter results today, Nov. 1, with an income from operations of $66.8 million on $169 million in sales.

Sales for the period July 1 to Sept. 29, were $1.4 million greater than last year while net income rose by $0.2 million.

In all, the volume of alcohol sold in the province has declined by more than 3.5 per cent since 2010. Spirits, beer and ready to drink products have been leading this trend, with wine emerging as the only growth segment, thanks in part to the success of Nova Scotia wines.

Nova Scotia wines were up 7.8 per cent, building on the 19.6 per cent growth experienced over the same quarter last year. Nova Scotia ciders sales increased 176 per cent over last year and 244 per cent over Q1 as the summer drink experienced a surge in popularity. Nova Scotian craft beer sales were also up, by 14 per cent over last year.
