Fire Destroys Antigonish Plow Shed

Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (Oct. 2007 - Feb. 2021)

Backup plows from around Nova Scotia are on their way to Antigonish to fill in for three provincial plows lost in a fire at the Antigonish Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal plow shed on Highway 104.

Nobody was hurt in the fire which started around noon but the nine-bay shed was destroyed. Department officials are making arrangements to clear area roads during a storm expected to hit the area this evening.

"We’re glad no one was hurt but we did lose some important equipment," said district director Gerard Jessome. "With bad weather coming our way, this is not ideal, but other districts around the province have very quickly stepped up to provide some equipment.

"We'll do our best to keep the roads around Antigonish in excellent condition but we are asking for residents' patience should there be unexpected delays in clearing."

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
